First edition of this book of recipes "all of which owe their final excellence to the skillful use of wine in their preparation" by the family of the prolific avant-garde writer Robert Carlton Brown, who presaged the advent of the e-reader in a 1930 essay entitled "The Readies" in "Transition" (Paris, #19/20, pp167-73), which called for a new "Reading Machine." Near fine to fine with only the slightest age darkening to endpaperes; in dust jacket darekened at spine and edges and with few tiny nicks and just a touch of rubbing, otherwise near fine.

Good Housekeeping's cook books were not offered for general sale but available only to the subscriber's of the magazine. "Tested, Tasted, and Approved in Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchens." Good to very good with light soiling to covers, boards visible at corners, and shallow gouge to inside fore edge of rear board. Several handwritten recipes and notes laid in, including "Marshmallow Ice Box Loaf," "Lime Pie," "Emergency Cake," "Nan's Coffee Spice Cake," "Rose's Chocolate Cake," et al. Lacking dust jacket, if issued in one.
