Preceded in the U.S. by the 1866 edition published from first-printing British sheets by Appleton. Small 8vo dark red gilt-stamped pebble cloth boards; all edges gilt; 192 pages. Expertly rebacked with original spine laid down and corners repaired; original brown coated endpapers retained. Covers lightly rubbed with gilt nonetheless relatively bright, spine somewhat faded with gilt beginning to dull, light stain to frontispiece lower corner, and preliminary leaves show tiny nicks and chips. Still altogether a quite good, generally pleasing copy.
