STUDS LONIGAN: A Trilogy; [inscribed association copy of the Modern Library Giant collecting all three volumes TOGETHER WITH a Typed Letter Signed by Farrell].

New York: The Modern Library, (1938). Later printing, circa 1950s, of Modern Library Giant G41. Collects the three volumes in Farrell's "Studs Lonigan" trilogy: Young Lonigan; The Young Manhood of Studs Lonigan; and Judgment Day. INSCRIBED TO CHARLES “SASHA” ZIMMERMAN on front endpaper, "To Charles Zimmerman/ With affectionate regards/ Jim Farrell." Charles S. Zimmerman (1897 – 1979) was a social activist and long-time official of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union [ILGWU]. He and Farrell were both active in the radical labor movement and members of various socialist parties, including the Socialist Party of America. Farrell referred to Zimmerman as his “old friend and comrade.” Very good with faint splash of staining on endpaper not affecting inscription (otherwise nearly fine); in very good dust jacket supplied from another copy of the book that shows mild soiling, relatively shallow chipping to spine ends, and just a touch of creasing at corners. TOGETHER WITH TLS signed "Jim Farrell." Dated November 20, 1950, it mentions a recent lunch together and carbons of letters (not present) then outlines various Labor Movement representatives Zimmerman should meet with on an upcoming trip to Europe: Richard "Dick" Eldridge, Labor attache at the U.S. Embassy in Paris; Norris Chipman, a former embassy official; Irving Brown, a prominent American AFL representative in Europe; Dudley Barker, reporter for the Herald in London; and William "Bill" Gausmann, ECA labor representative in London. Chipped along edges, otherwise very good. From the collection of Zimmerman's son, famed sportswriter Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman.
