NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR: The Facsimile of the Extant Manuscript.

London: Secker & Warburg, (1984). First edition thus. Over 40% of Orwell's handwritten fourth draft is reproduced in facsimile with a typescript, including corrections, on opposing pages. According to Orwell's second wife, Sonia (as quoted in Peter Davidson's introduction), "George always threw away all his [manuscripts], letters etc., so his actual working methods are very badly documented." His manuscripts that have survived are generally typescript, making this facsimile of the original handwritten manuscript particularly interesting. Folio grey linen boards, gilt-stamped spine; 381 pages. About very good with covers bright but showing a few edge dings, spine slightly sprung and text block just beginning to fall away, pages age toned with foxing to edges extending somewhat to margins; in bright, near fine dust jacket with minor creasing and slight tanning along front spine fold.
