London: John Lehmann, (1952). First UK edition of the author's first book. Basis for the 1957 film noir "The Strange One." 8vo blue cloth flexible boards; gilt stamped spine; 240 pages. Good or better with edges a touch rubbed, page edges and few interior pages foxed (mainly first and last few), and lower corner p. 179 torn off affecting one word on that page and another on verso; in good dust jacket with moderate edge wear, significant foxing (most noticeably on rear panel), and evidence of old tape repair on verso. Not a great copy but an affordable alternative to the U.S.
