Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature, and founding member of The Fellowship of Southern Writers, of which Dickey was a charter member. He and Dickey were great friends, as recounted in Sullivan's memoir, NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY (2006).
