Collects two pieces from The New Yorker on the "renowned Greenwich Village bohemian of his time" who was known for cadging meals, drinks, and contributions to the Joe Gould Fund, while writing a voluminous Oral History of Our Times (from the dust jacket). The title piece was the basis for the 2000 film of the same name starring Ian Holm as Gould and Stanley Tucci as Mitchell. 8vo orange cloth-backed gray paper boards lettered in black on spine; top edge orange; 181 pages. Two short, narrow tape shadows on front end paper otherwise bright and fine in near fine dust jacket slightly toned at spine, with a touch of rubbing, few tiny tears, and small, faint initial stamp on dust jacket flap near printed price.
