Faulkner became her legal guardian and stand-in father when her own father (for whom she was named) died not long after she was born. Number 9 of 150 copies SIGNED BY WELLS ON TITLE PAGE. This copy ADDITIONALLY INSCRIBED to scholar, biographer, and Stanford English professor Thomas C. Moser (1923-2016) and first wife, Mary, on half-title page: "To Tom and Mary/ with my best wishes/ Dean/ October 13 1980/ Oxford, Mississippi." ALSO WITH BRIEF ALS from Wells to Moser laid in: dated 2/9/87, written on yellow lined paper from a pad, discusses a duplicate check and closes with "Come see us./ Very best,/ Dean." 8vo gilt-stamped green faux leather boards; 63 pages plus colophon. Fine with just a few minor bumps; in near fine dust jacket with few small tears.
