THE THISTLE: No. I. Tuesday, August 4, 1807. Vol. I. An Original Work, Containing A Great Many Good Things.
Boston: Etheridge & Bliss, 1807. First edition. "This short-lived comic periodical by 'Roderic Rover' was made up of humorous articles and poetry written by the editor and his brother 'Joe.' Much of the material was concerned with other members of the 'Rover' family" (note to entry 19780629 on OCLC). 16mo printed paperwraps; 24 pages plus covers, with rear cover printing "advertisements." This copy hand-stitched into homemade plain brown covers with handwritten label on front, "No. 1/ David Johnson's/ The Thistle." Altogether quite good with Johnson's signature at head of p. [1] and general wear and staining but no loss to text, which is still relatively bright and wholly readable. Rare. OCLC lists only 2 copies.
