First edition of each. NOW IS ALWAYS THE MIRACULOUS TIME: Poems. (Washington, DC: Washington Writers' Publishing House, 1977. INSCRIBED inside front cover: "For Ernest Kroll,/ With admiration for his work and/ pleasure in his presence/ Bob Sargent/ March 1977." Near fine in stapled paperwraps. AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED to Ernest Kroll on publication announcement of sorts laid in (photocopy of cover of book with publication details; housed in envelope postmarked 3/16/77). A WOMAN FROM MEMPHIS: Poems: 1960-1978. (Washington, D.C.: The Word Works, 1979). INSCRIBED "Affectionately" inside front cover. 8vo paperwraps with photograph by William Christenberry tipped to front cover. Very good with light soiling and tanning to covers and light coffee splashes to pp. 36-7. INSCRIBED TYPESCRIPT POEM, "Mr. Santayana" (appears on p. 40), together with AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to Kroll dated 12/20/77 laid in. Typescript differs slightly and includes dedication "(For E. K.)" not in published version (letter to Kroll explains why he is dedicating the poem to him). ASPECTS OF A SOUTHERN STORY. (Washington, D.C.: The Word Works, 1983). INSCRIBED on title page, "Ernie:/ Can't tell you how/ much I appreciate/ your words on the cover./ Looking forward to/ seeing you./ Bob." Near fine in paperwraps with Kroll's blurb on rear cover. TYPED LETTER SIGNED by Sargent to Kroll laid in. Undated but in envelope postmarked 8/3/82. Requests permission to use two sentences from a letter sent to him by Kroll on the back cover of the book, says he fully understands if Kroll says no, and provides assurances it will not affect their friendship. Also laid in -- 11/11/82 AUTOGRAPH POSTCARD SIGNED announcing a reading the next day ("Mainly for info. Book is coming along....") and "Announcing the publication of" AUTOGRAPH POSTCARD SIGNED to Kroll dated 1/12/83 ("You should have a copy of the book by now..."). TOGETHER WITH loose correspondence as follows: 1974 TYPED LETTER SIGNED in which Sargent introduces himself; 1977 AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED talking about trying to get together; 2 POSTCARDS advertising readings with short notes on back (circa 1980 and 1982); and 2 POSTCARDS with kudos for Kroll's work (1982 and 1983).
