INSCRIBED BY SILLITOE on front free endpaper, "All best wishes/ to/ Walter Sullivan/ from/ Alan Sillitoe/ Vanderbilt/ 11/Jan 1985.” Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature and one of the founding members of The Fellowship of Southern Writers. Most likely inscribed by Sillitoe (1928-2010) while his wife, the distinguished British poet Ruth Fainlight, was Poet in Residence at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Small dent about halfway down fore-edge of back board, otherwise near fine in very good dust jacket with same dent as well as rubbing along edges.
