The first one, “REPORT FROM PART ONE,” IS INSCRIBED on the half-title page, “For Richard and Joan, Warm regards!/ Sincerely,/ Gwendolyn Brooks”; and the second one, “REPORT FROM PART TWO,” IS SIGNED TWICE in green ink (on title and half-title pages). Collectively these two autobiographical volumes are filled with memories, musings, interviews, letters, poetry, and pictures covering her life, work, family, friends, et al. An important record of a lifetime of family, community and poetry from the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and our nation’s first Black Poet Laureate. First volume: 8vo gilt-stamped dark-blue cloth boards; illustrated with photographs; 215 pages; issued without a dust jacket; near fine with page edges faintly foxed and small light stain to upper edge rear blank. Second volume: 8vo gilt-stamped blue cloth boards; 170 pages; fine with just a touch of scattered spotting in fine dust jacket. Scarce signed first editions.
