SIGNED IN FULL on title page and INSCRIBED BY SILLITOE on front endpaper to Walter Sullivan, "A ripping yarn! --/ that took 25 years/ to struggle out./ In all friendship/ and with warm and/ sincere feelings to/ Walter from/ Alan/ Nashville/ 23/3/85." Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature and one of the founding members of The Fellowship of Southern Writers. Most likely inscribed by Sillitoe (1928-2010) while his wife, the distinguished British poet Ruth Fainlight, was Poet in Residence at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Fine in fine dust jacket.
