Sullivan, Ray; (Amos Alonzo Stagg).

ORIGINAL PEN-AND-INK DRAWING WITH WATERCOLOR WASH; ["You may not live to be 100. But you'll feel like it ... Brother, you'll feel like it."]

No-place: No-publisher, 1962. On approximately 8.125 x 10.75" off-white cardstock with image covering lower third. Dated "Nov 11. 62" at top right and boldly inscribed, "Brad: 'Believe it or not'...this is Staggs recipe for longevity. Abstain from tea, coffee, alcohol, and sex (after 39) ... stay on a strict diet ... and run a mile every day before breakfast. You may not live to be 100. But you'll feel like it ... Brother, you'll feel like it. Ray Sullivan." Rescued from a badly damaged copy of THE UNRECONSTRUCTED AMATEUR: A PICTURE BIOGRAPHY OF AMOS ALONZO STAGG by Bob Constantine (San Francisco: 1962), a tribute book issued on the occasion of the legendary football coach's 100th birthday for which Sullivan provided the illustrations. Near fine with touch of faint foxing to edges, light paper clip indent at upper edge, minor glue residue to verso (from having been previously tipped in). Sullivan produced cover designs and illustrations for a number of books and created many of the "Ladies’ Night" posters for San Francisco’s Bohemian Club as well as illustrating the first edition of Trader Vic's BARTENDER'S GUIDE.
