Riley, who wrote children's books in addition to plays, was perhaps best known for her lyrics to the song “Slumber Boat.” This copy of one-act plays written for adults is INSCRIBED BY RILEY on front endpaper (without recipient) "Slumber Boat [underlined]/ 'Sail, baby, sail,/ Out upon that sea -/ Only don't forget to sail/ Back again to me.'/ Alice C. D. Riley." Small 8vo blue cloth boards with orange paper spine label; top edge orange; 192 pages. Includes the title play, “The Sponge,” “Their Anniversary,” “Radio,” “The Black Suitcase,” and “Skim-Milk.” About very good with fading to spine label and top edge stain; in about very good dust jacket with spine a little rubbed and toned, and shallow chipping to spine ends and corners. TOGETHER WITH RARE PAMPHLET constituting a bibliography of sorts, PLAYS AND PAGEANTS FOR LITTLE THEATRES AND SCHOOLS BY ALICE C. D. RILEY; 12 pages, stapled; illustrated with photographs of Riley on front and back. Lists her plays with synopses and performance histories and, in some cases, royalty fees. No publisher, place, or date given but OCLC, which locates only one copy in libraries, dates this pamphlet as published in 1925.
