Compiled by Warren, Pennsylvania's State Ornithologist, just 2 years after the first edition was "exhausted" due to demand for the book in schools and by "agricultural societies in the state" (F. M. Chapman, "Notes and News," The Auk, July 1889). Rebound in small 4to (6.25 x 9.75") 3/4 black cloth with gilt-stamped spine and simulated marbled boards; 434 pages including appendices and index. Tape shadow to fore edge first blank which also shows tape along the inner hinge otherwise near fine.
