The title was taken from Lewis Carroll's poem, "The Walrus and the Carpenter," which, along with situations encountered by O. Henry himself in Honduras in the late 1890s, provided inspiration for characters and plot points in these interlinking stories set in the fictitious Republic of Anchuria. (Wikipedia). 8vo black cloth boards stamped in orange, green and white; 344 pages. Good or better with spine dulled and barely readable and elaborate front cover illustration a bit rubbed and showing a few small color touch ups but text block sound and, with the exception of a touch of minor damp staining at rear, quite clean. Housed in custom, blue-green cloth-covered chemise and matching slipcase with gilt-stamped black labels to spine.
