Franz Reuleaux (1829-1905), often called "the father of kinematics," was a mechanical engineer and President of the Berlin Royal Technical Academy. FIRST VOLUME: Theoretische Kinematik; Grundzuge einer Theorie Des Maschinenwesens [Theoretical Kinematics, Principles of a Theory of Mechanical Engineering]; 622 pages including index; 452 illustrations in the text; 8 double-page folding tables. SECOND VOLUME: Die Praktischen Beziehungen der Kinematik Zu Geometrie Und Mechanik [The Practical Relationships of Kinematics to Geometry and Mechanics]; 788 pages including index; 670 illustrations in the text; two folding illustrations. Freshly rebound in gray cloth boards with page edges marbled, new endpapers added, and gilt-lettered brown leather labels on spine. PLEASE NOTE: both volumes have been re-bound in such a way that the folding plates have been bound in versus tipped to a stub (they're completely viewable but the illustrations run into the hinges). Some minor foxing to volume 1 but none in volume 2. A near fine set. Both volumes are scarce in the original editions -- the 2nd volume, published 5 years after the first, is especially so.
