First issue with "gve" p.135:10 in first volume as well as all the misprints, cancels, and stubs as called for [Pottle 79]. Quarto (4to), early full-leather bindings sympathetically recased with new gilt-stamped spines and early mottled calf covers laid down; frontispiece engraved portrait of Johnson after Sir Joshua Reynolds in Volume I and two engraved plates in Volume II, as called for. Text block apparently trimmed on all edges, plates and opposing pages foxed, most significantly on frontis and title page of Volume I (pictured), otherwise both volumes quite clean with only scattered foxing. Housed together in custom cloth-covered chemise and half-morocco slipcase with matching cloth sides (showing only light wear).
