Approximately 200 leaves printed on rectos only of deckled-edged thick-stock paper, interleaved with tissue-guards. Illustrated throughout from caricature drawings by various "regular cartoonists" of Ring Lardner's friends and/or associates, mostly from the sporting community, accompanied with a limerick about each by Lardner. Includes many notable figures: Charles Comiskey, sports writer / golfer "Chick" Evans, Jr., August Herrman (former Reds owner), Kid Gleason (former White Sox manager), Ban Johnson, plus other professionals, businessmen, a few actors, Chicago politicians, etc. 7.75 x 10.25” original green suede over paper covers with inside covers lined in silk; front cover lettered in gilt. Stab-sewn with gold silk cord. According to Bruccoli & Layman [A10], this "was a subscription (or mug book) sold to the men included in the text. Unknown number of copies." Overhanging cover edges evidently trimmed and covers fair at best though binding cord present and gilt lettering on front intact. Interior very good to near fine. Understandably scarce.
