OUR OWN TIMES.
(London): Bradbury & Evans, 1846. First edition. Issued in 4 monthly parts -- this copy with parts bound together by Bradstreet in three-quarter leather over marbled boards with gilt-stamped spine, 5 raised spine bands; endpapers marbled; top edge gilt; retaining cover of first part (only) which is bound in at front. Illustrated with full-plate frontis etchings for each part ("An Outline of Society"; "The Ragged School"; "Tremendous Sacrifice!"; and "Almacks-Over the Water") plus 2 others (6 in all) and with woodcuts in the text throughout. Provenance: Bookplate of Ogden Goelet, a businessman of the Gilded Age. Lettering along top of the original bound-in front cover volume 1 (only one present) erased, perhaps to make it appear as though it was the only one for the four parts; few page corners chipped; front endpaper cracked along hinge and first few leaves starting at top (still tight). Otherwise, altogether very good to near fine.
