UNDER THE ARUBAN SUN.

UNDER THE ARUBAN SUN.

Fuquay-Varina, NC: Research Triangle Publishing, (1996). First edition of this self-published travelogue written wholly in verse. A remarkable achievement, it would seem; eleven days covered in 288 pages, opening with, "According to the watchword, our play has started./ Time was midnight; the date a dark gray Christmas./ Working a year, three hundred sixty-five days,/ We earned a fortnight's holiday to play.// The name of the play: the 'Winter Vacation';/ The place: the island of Aruba in the Caribbean./ Transportation: a steelbird;/ The cast on the stage: our family of four." Illustrated with drawings, presumably by Rhee. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the front endpaper, "December 11, 1996/ Chi Sun Rhee." Fine in fine dust jacket. Although not indicated as such in the book, this copy is from the collection of poet, short story writer, and Faulkner scholar Louis Daniel Brodsky. "Time was midnight; the date a dark gray Christmas."
