Inspired by his experience as chief mate of a small steamer, and basis for the 1951 film of the same name. 8vo green cloth boards stamped in gilt on spine; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Contemporaneous name and date on front endpaper ("F. C. Poynder/ Dec. 21, 1898). Good or better with binding shaken, spine a bit cocked, rear corner bumped, and spine ends fraying.
