THE DRESSMAKER.
(London): Duckworth, (1973). First edition. SIGNED BY BAINBRIDGE, "Best wishes, Beryl Bainbridge" (not to anyone in particular). A pyschological novel about the struggles of a repressed dressmaker and her sister to look after their 17-year-old niece, who is having a delusional affair with an American soldier during WWII (inspired by a relationship Bainbridge had with a soldier when she was a teen). Made into a 1988 award-winning British film. Short-listed for the Booker Prize. Faint foxing to page top edge, pastedowns and verso of the price-clipped dust jacket, otherwise near fine. SCARCE SIGNED.
