BLACK FRIDAY. David Goodis. BLACK FRIDAY.
New York: Lion Book, (1954). First edition, a paperback original. "Lion Book Original #224." Goodis's prolific output of short stories and novels epitomizing the noir fiction genre maintain a deep identification with the city of his birth, Philadelphia, where he used what he observed in the skid row neighborhoods of his home town to craft his stories of lives gone wrong (Wikipedia). Bright and near fine with just one tiny nick to bottom front corner and edges lightly rubbed.

MAIDSTONE. Norman Mailer. MAIDSTONE.
(New York): New American Library/Signet, (1971). First edition. From the collection of Adeline Lubell-Naiman, who played the role of the president of a women's college in the film. Though it does not appear to be in Mailer's handwriting, this particular copy was presumably sent at his request and is inscribed simply, "With apologies, Norman." The complete screenplay, with still photographs from the film, descriptions of the filming and an essay by Mailer, who was the author, director and star of the film. A paperback original in glossy pictorial wraps showing some cover wear but still about very good. Adeline Lubell-Naiman was the editor instrumental in the eventual publication of THE NAKED AND THE DEAD. In 1946, while an editor at Little, Brown, Lubell-Naiman convinced Mailer to submit the first 200 pages of THE NAKED AND THE DEAD, which she talked up to her publisher. Unfortunately, she was also the one to suggest historian and critic Bernard DeVoto read the manuscript--he recommended not publishing. But Mailer submitted it to Rinehart, who published the book in 1948. Over the years, Lubell-Naiman remained close friends with Mailer and his wives. In the summer of 1968 she even played the role of "Adeline McCarthy," a president of a women's college in Mailer's film "Maidstone" (Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center website).
