AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED. Alfred Stieglitz. AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED.
[New York]: An American Place, July 3, 1943. Handwritten note, presumably written in response to a question put to Stieglitz at his gallery: "I have no favorite American author. There are some that hold me equally. Each in his own particular way"; above which Stieglitz has written "An American Place / July 3--43," then "You desire this: / Alfred Stieglitz." An American Place was Stieglitz's third and final gallery, which he ran from 1929 until his death in 1946. The note is on a thin sheet of 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper. Flattened creasing where folded and some wear wear to edges, still very good. Together with "Alfred Stieglitz and An American Place, 1929-1946," a catalog of an exhibition held at the Zabriskie Gallery, New York, May 2-June 3, 1978 with text by Doris Bry. Illustrated with photographs by Stieglitz, Ansel Adams and Paul Strand. Near fine in printed, stapled paperwraps. "I HAVE NO FAVORITE AMERICAN AUTHOR"
