Bennett / ex dono auctoris [a gift of the author]." From the collection of cartoonist Claude Smith with his penciled ownership signature. Light blue paperwraps printed on front only; most pages unopened. Old damp stain along spine and with yapped (over-hanging) edges of the fragile paper covers chipped. Good at best but a scarce book, scacer still signed by Bacon.

An impressive book that would look outstanding in any Civil War or Presidential collection. Very good in original brown cloth, with some spotting and rubbing on edges of illustrated boards.
