He was educated in both England and France and earned a Master of Arts degree at Oxford University before joining the British army at the beginning of World War I during which he served in France and Italy, earning him the Military Cross and Croix de la Guerre. Pulitzer Prize-winning editor Herbert Berridge Elliston was a foreign correspondent for various newspapers before becoming financial advisor to the Chinese Government. Later he was financial editor of the Christian Science Monitor, then joined the staff of the Washington Post where he eventually rose to editor of the newspaper. He was co-winner of the Pulitzer Prize for "Editorial Writing" in 1949 (Complete Biographical Encyclopedia of Pulitzer Prize Winners, Heinz & Erika Fischer, 2002). INVESTMENT FOR APPRECIATION gives "Allying analysis of what makes the markets work with a study of the 'technique' of trading"--from the 1999 reprint version. Dark blue cloth boards, gilt stamped spine; illustrated with graphs; seven appendices.
