SONNEN-SCHOPFUNG: Indianische Legende; [The Creation of the Sun and the Moon]. B. Traven. SONNEN-SCHOPFUNG: Indianische Legende; [The Creation of the Sun and the Moon].
(Zurich/Prague: Buchergilde Gutenberg, 1936). First edition in German, preceded by a Czech edition in 1934. First issue with 5 lines of text below number on colophon page [Treverton 868]. A revised and expanded version of an Indian creation myth originally appearing in DER KARREN [The Carreta]; first separate edition thus. This copy number 2,860 of an unknown quantity. (According to the colophon, Traven wrote the book at the special request of the board of the Buchergilde Gutenberg as a premium for its members with the stipulation it only be distributed from Sept. 1, 1936 to June 30, 1937, which would explain it's lack of limitation.) Not published in the U.S. until 1968 -- his last English work. Linen boards stamped in dark orange on front and spine; top edge orange. Scattered foxing, primarily to first and last several leaves, otherwise would be near fine. Lacking the dust jacket, if issued in one.

New York: New-York Transcript, (1835). Presumed first edition of this narrative. 27 pages of densely packed, small type. Harvard University, in the introduction to their web-based "Studies in Scarlet" digital collection, notes that tracts such as these are "especially valuable as sources for the study of the history of women, [as] the cases involve not only trials for divorce, domestic violence, bigamy, seduction, breach of promise to marry, and the custody of children but also those for murder and rape." In this particular case the plaintiff has brought suit against the woman to whom he was engaged because she married another. Disbound, faded and stained, though wholly legible.
