This copy INSCRIBED BY ALL FOUR of the editors. The 20th century in sports from the famed Washington Post columnist who wrote his first story for the Post in 1924 and his last the day before he died in 1998. Povich, who had a strong sense of social justice, called for the integration of major league baseball in 1939--twenty years later he was still at it, attacking Washington Redskins owner George Preston Marshall for having an all-white team. Fine in dust jacket with only minor edge wear.

An attractive jacket which is the same as the British edition, with "$3.00" price stamped on front flap, as usually seen.

Handwritten notations on back cover note a few passages in the book as well as Pritchett's telephone number and address. Very good. NOTE: This copy is somewhat of an archive of Quill & Brush cataloging practices and a testament to how long books can languish on our shelves. Laid in is the original, type-written descriptive slip with Q&B logo from our open store in Bethesda, most likely produced circa 1980. And another slip, sans logo, printed from a dot-matrix printer on continuous-form paper, most likely produced in the mid-80's using our old Zenith Heathkit computer. Fast-forward 30 years or so when we no doubt discovered the book had somehow fallen out of inventory and entered it into our present database on 7/14/2010. Hope springs eternal, as they say, as with each iteration we have raised the price.
