MRS. PALMER'S HONEY. Fannie Cook. MRS. PALMER'S HONEY.
Garden City: Doubleday & Company Inc. 1946. First edition of the author's third book. INSCRIBED and signed by Cook, who's inscriptions seem to be scarce. Winner of the first George Washington Carver Award. The blurb under the author's picture reads in part, "Although Fannie Cook happens to be white, she is particularly qualified to write about Negro-white relationships..." Very good or better in a good-only dust jacket with 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inch chunk missing from top corner of rear panel and the top and bottom spine edges chipped away (not affecting any lettering). The price on the front flap is still intact and the front panel looks good.

NINE LITTLE GOSLINGS. Susan Coolidge. NINE LITTLE GOSLINGS.
Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1875. First edition. By Sarah Chauncy Woolsey, written under the pseudonym "Susan Coolidge." Coolidge first gained popularity for her "Katy Did" series in 1872; the series--a greater literary influence in England than in the United States--has since been recognized as a precursor to the popular British girls' school stories that proliferated in the twentieth century. Nine stories with nursery-rhyme titles: "Goosey, Goosey Gander," "Little Bo-Peep," "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe," etc. Illustrated throughout at chapter headings, and with a full-page frontis drawing. Gift inscription dated 1875, spine ends, hinges and corners showing wear, and black endpapers with a few small skinned marks, but still very good.
