DEPRESSION. Tomi Ungerer. DEPRESSION.
Ardsley, NY: Geigy Pharmaceuticals, 1972. First edition and, we assume, the only one. Appears to be a promotional piece for an anti-depressant, apparently issued as a give-away for a pharmaceuticals conference. COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS BY UNGERER, the prolific French illustrator of children's books (he is the recipient of the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award) and of material for adults, including for books, magazines, posters, etc. 36 pages; in blue, stiff, 8 1/2 x 11 inch paperwraps. Illustrated with 36 color drawings and two in black-and-white (some blank pages and some pages with multiple illustrations); text "handwritten" (i.e., reproduced, we assume from Ungerer handwriting but not actually handwritten, not signed). Fine condition.

DICK SANDS: or the Boy Captain. Jules. Ellen E. Frewer Verne. DICK SANDS: or the Boy Captain.
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1879. First fully illustrated U.S. edition with 94 illustrations--including frontispiece, title page illustration, and one map--91 of which are full-page plate engravings by Meyer and Barbant. There are 92 plates referenced in the "List of Illustrations" but, as in some other copies of this edition, the illustration listed for page 201 is not present (there is text on that page). Pale yellow endpapers, red cloth binding ornately decorated in black and gilt, with illustrations on front and spine. Flaking to the cloth and small hole to front endpaper due to insect damage, which is too bad as it is otherwise about very good with some light soiling but gilt bright, hinges cracked but binding still tight, light foxing to endpapers, contemporary gift inscription on front endpaper, etc. A relatively attractive copy despite the wear.

(Lexington, KY: Origami Express), 2004. First edition. One of 57 copies SIGNED and numbered in pencil by Vonnegut. One-color silkscreen print on white Coventry cotton paper measuring 11 x 15 inches. According to Vonnegut, "Confetti is Origami's response to the in-your-face lack of meaning or message in so much modern art, starting, perhaps, with Mondrian, and of course excluding the strikingly communicative Cubists, but surely including the intellectually and morally blank works by the so-called 'Abstract Expressionists.' Origami says to the latter, with pictures as didactic as this one, 'If you have absolutely nothing to say to anybody, can't you please shut up?'" Fine.
