ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF: Short Stories. V. S. Pritchett. ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF: Short Stories.
New York: Random House, (1979). First edition. Uncorrected proof in red, printed paperwraps with slip laid in indicating a publication date of November 9, 1979. Handwritten notations on back cover note a few passages in the book as well as Pritchett's telephone number and address. Very good. NOTE: This copy is somewhat of an archive of Quill & Brush cataloging practices and a testament to how long books can languish on our shelves. Laid in is the original, type-written descriptive slip with Q&B logo from our open store in Bethesda, most likely produced circa 1980. And another slip, sans logo, printed from a dot-matrix printer on continuous-form paper, most likely produced in the mid-80's using our old Zenith Heathkit computer. Fast-forward 30 years or so when we no doubt discovered the book had somehow fallen out of inventory and entered it into our present database on 7/14/2010. Hope springs eternal, as they say, as with each iteration we have raised the price.

THE AMBER SPYGLASS: His Dark Materials, Book III. Philip Pullman. THE AMBER SPYGLASS: His Dark Materials, Book III.
New York: Knopf, 2000. First edition. Galley/proof "manuscript." 8.5 x 11 inches: clear plastic front and black plastic rear cover; velo-bound (with thin black plastic strips). 661 pages, appears to be reproduced from a typescript. This copy with printed label on front with reviewer's name followed by "Manuscript #156"--it seems unlikely, though, that there would have been that many copies produced in this format. Few small stains to page fore edges, otherwise fine. Together with a "press pack" for the book consisting of a color photo of the author, a color photo copy of a picture of the trade edition, personal letter to the reviewer from the Knopf publicity manager, and a few pages of promos for the other books in the series. The press pack is fine in large clear plastic envelope with string-loop closure.
