PROCESSIONAL! A Jazz Symphony of American Life in Four Acts.

New York: Thomas Seltzer, 1925. First edition. Early socially conscious play by one of the blacklisted “Hollywood Ten.” An experimental expressionistic drama centering on a coal strike in a West Virginia town under martial law. 8vo orange cloth boards stamped in black; 218 pp. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs from the Broadway production at Garrick Theatre which opened Jan. 12, 1925, and ran for 96 performances but was a financial failure, making it hard for Lawson to get his next few plays staged. Lacking front endpaper, foxing to first and last few leaves, old damp stains to margins of rear half of text block and edges of rear endpaper, covers somewhat soiled; still, a good solid copy lacking dust jacket. An exceedingly scarce to rare book.
