No-place: No-publisher, (1981). First edition. Felver’s piercing black-and-white photograph of Burroughs. 11 x 14" with image measuring a little over 8.5 x 11.5" -- SIGNED BY FELVER on front at lower right corner just beneath the image and stamped on back with Felver's copyright notice and handwritten date (1981). Presumed to be from Felver’s first-ever show, “Beat & Beyond,” at San Francisco’s famed City Lights Bookstore, in October 1983, as it includes a photocopy of a signed, handwritten note on Burroughs’ Lawrence, Kansas, letterhead ("Since dreams are a biologic necessity we are literally 'such stuff as dreams are made of' and real poetry is dream. William S. Burroughs."). Felver is well known for matching writers' words with portraits, and he later used photos from this period – including this one -- in his 1986 book, POETS EXPOSED. Also included is October 1983 issue of a San Francisco photography magazine, Photo Metro, with review on p.18 by Gerald Nicosia of Felver's City Lights show featuring a reproduction of this Burroughs portrait. One tiny corner crease otherwise quite fine.
