Item #56089 TWO EPIGRAMS OF FEALTY BY DYLAN THOMAS DUKE OF GWENO (Cr. 1947). Dylan Thomas, John Gawsworth.
TWO EPIGRAMS OF FEALTY BY DYLAN THOMAS DUKE OF GWENO (Cr. 1947).

TWO EPIGRAMS OF FEALTY BY DYLAN THOMAS DUKE OF GWENO (Cr. 1947).

(Soho: Privately Printed), [1954]. "Photostat proof" of the original edition which was published by Gawsworthy, self-proclaimed "King Juan of Redonda," in an edition of 30 numbered copies. Issued as a memorial after Thomas's death for members of the "Redonda Court." Small booklet printing Thomas's epigrams, "Upon King Juan's Return from Stebbing" (2 lines) and "King Juan Advocates King Felipe" (4 lines) with "Caves de France, Dean Street, Soho, January 23, 1953" beneath. Each of the thirty copies was numbered on the front. This is a photostat of an unnumbered copy that had been inscribed on the front (prior to copying), "Only proof I know of. / Juan R / For Basalto," presumably by Gawsworth; and on the back, "One of five photostats / produced by the late / Grand-Duke of Basalto / Juan R." There is a veritable rabbit hole of information about the "Realm of Redonda" online but we could find no mention of these photostatic proof copies. 8 x 10.5" leaf folded twice to make 4 pages (including covers). Fine.
