(Avon): Limited Editions Club, 1974. First edition thus, with introduction by Shirley Ann Grau and illustrated with photogravures of etchings by Sigmund Abeles. One of 2000 copies SIGNED BY ABELES. 4to gilt-stamped quarter black goatskin with gray-striped buckram boards. This edition is not uncommon however it seldom turns up with the separate etching from which the frontispiece was reproduced. This copy with ORIGINAL "PORTRAIT OF MAGGIE" SIGNED ETCHING that was sent with the publisher's compliments to an unnamed selection of subscribers. Double matted and professionally framed with overall dimensions approximately 11.25 x 12.5". Book is fine in slightly scuffed and marked slipcase with few small nicks and with "spine" (title side) showing light damp stains. Framed etching is near fine to fine with readable remnants of the text portion of publisher's compliments slip affixed to back.
