Approximately 280 pages of text plus 80 pages of black-and-white images (repeated in color on CD, which is included). This copy is INSCRIBED BY BROOMFIELD, "For Al Mears, / Without you, nothing! / With gratitude, / Michael / February 2016." This is an association copy as shown in the "Acknowledgements" (p. xi) where it says "I owe special thanks to Allen Mears for access to material from his fine Jeffers collection and many helpful comments on a draft of my text and to Allen and David Rothman for encouragement, recommendations, and support without which this project might not have gone forward." The support refers to Mears providing funds to the Book Club of California (who in turn funded Oak Knoll Press) to offset production and printing costs. Although dated 2015, last-minute corrections delayed printing until 2016. Oak Knoll's managing editor, Matthew Young, said the exact date is somewhat variable and could range from Jan 20, 2016, to before or after January 27. The agreed-upon date is January 31, 2016, which agrees with the date shown by Amazon. Per Young, in a response to Mears' email, the text's paper is Sheridan Books 60# House Natural Smooth, 420 PPI (on average). The insert with halftone images paper is 70# House White Matte, 528 PPI (on average). Both papers are acid-free and from SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified mills and distributors. The typefaces used and colors used on the text are fonts: Minion, Myriad, in Cloister Black BT. There is no other color in text. The illustrations are photographs and scans reproduced in halftone in the insert section, and in full color on the CD. The binding is made of .088" binders boards covered in Arrestox B #14550 Slate Gray Linen. Titling in silver ink is on the book's spine. The binding and jacket were designed by Angela Werner of Höhne-Werner Design. The book was printed and bound by Sheridan Books. The CD is mounted inside the back cover of the book and was made by Disc Makers. Book set-up using InDesign to PDF then to computer to plate to press; sheet-fed and then printed by Sheridan Books. Number of copies in the edition: 450. The book's dust jacket front cover photo is of some of Broomfield's Jeffers collection and was taken by Annie Schlechter. The jacket's back cover contains blurbs by Charles Simic ("A marvelously comprehensive bibliography of Jeffers that reads like a detective novel and makes me want to peek into every item mentioned and immerse myself in his poetry."), a longer one by David J. Rothman, a former president of the Robinson Jeffers Association, and photos of a number of books of Jeffers' poetry. HIS PLACE FOR STORY revisits the years covered by Alberts (correcting errors) and adds full descriptive entries for all known separate Jeffers publications and for selected other publications with Jeffers contributions. Dana Gioia, the poet and critic and former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, provides a preface and Tim Hunt, editor of Jeffers' COLLECTED POETRY, provides the afterword. Extensive appendices supply additional information on appearances of Jeffers' poetry and prose. Illustrating the text are over 400 images of book covers, jackets, broadsides, and other items, in grayscale in the printed volume and in color on an accompanying CD. Also Includes printouts of PROOF PAGES reviewed and commented upon by Mears a well as emails pertaining to the book. Fine in fine dust jacket.
