Classic Columns black paper covers printed by Jonathan Gerken at Peter Koch Printers. 492 pages in total, profusely illustrated with 625 full-color illustrations, In an email from Koch to the collector, Allen Mears, Peter stated, "The real numbers are: 385 sets in paper with heavy paper slipcases, 25 deluxe hand bound in black silk cloth over boards in a single volume with cloth slipcase, and about 90 sets of overs no slipcase which are comp copies review copies etc." Koch also identified the typefaces used as "Quadraat Roman and Italic for Volume 1 throughout, Volume 2: Quadraat for main text with Copperplate Gothic for headings, various: Title page is Argent, Copperplate Gothic, Futura Bold, and Winnetka, Captions for HARD WORDS is Fell Historical, FF Scala for Volume 3 throughout." Edited by Monique Comacchio and Camden Richards with an introduction by Russell Maret. The volumes measure 9 x 12 inches each, smythe sewn and bound by Puritan Capital in stiff Classic Columns black paper. Titling is on the covers in copper and silver and numbered (1, 2, 3) on the spines. When viewed as a group, Koch's circular imprint or printer's mark of an ouroboros, a mythological snake eating its tail, is displayed. (See Vol. 3, pp 37-8 for origin of printer's mark.) The set is housed in an untitled flexible slipcase of doubled-layered Color Plan Black stiff paper made by Puritan. Also included is the prospectus and significant and extensive correspondence between Mears and the principals. Fine, virtually as new, in original shipping container.
