Paris: Éditions du Seuil, 1948. First French edition. Limited edition of 55 copies for sale plus 5 hors commerce. This paper edition is a gathering of 16-page signatures. The pale beige paper is watermarked but appears machine made. The text appears to be printed letterpress. The signatures are glued into yellow wraps, which is printed in red, white and clear. The cover has several small tears that have been cleanly repaired from the back. The book is a translation of the single long poem "Thurso's Landing," and is from the book series or collection "Pierres Vives." The series has three components: Romans (Jeffers, Graham Greene and Camilo-Jose Cela); Essais (Huxley and D.H. Lawrence) and Theatre (T.S. Elliot). The text of "Thurso" is presented as prose, not poetry. The Paris office of the William A. Bradley Literary Agency handled contractual arrangements for this French edition of Thurso's Landing. The book is clean inside, with the fragile cover showing some use. Overall in good or better condition. Scarce.
