New York: Boni & Liveright, 1925. First edition, One of 1,200 in the first printing. Bound in faded dark purple boards with polished black vellum back strip and gilt lettering on back strip and covers. Charles Erskine Scott Wood's and Sara Bard Field's copy. Ownership markings by Wood and Field terming this "their book." INSCRIBED, "Robinson Jeffers is more than / a little proud to write his name / under these two. / Carmel, September 1, 1926." Book is slightly bumped on a corner, else fine. This copy passed to Sara Bard Field's daughter, from whom it was purchased. (A-20) Wood (1852 -- 1944) was an American author, civil liberties advocate, artist, soldier, and attorney. He is best known as the author of the 1927 satirical bestseller, Heavenly Discourse. Sara was his wife. Nice association on an early book.
