ROBINSON JEFFERS: FRAGMENTS OF AN OLDER FURY; [Three Pre-publication Volumes: 1st & 2nd State Proofs and an Advance Reading Copy]].

No-place [Berkeley, CA]: Oyez, 1968. First edition. Copyright 1968 but actually issued in 1967. Three pre-publication volumes. FIRST STATE PROOF unpaginated and printed on newsprint-like paper on rectos only without the initial chapter head letters or the first 15 prelimanary pages (pp.[1]-xv) and crudely stapled into red card covers printed on front only. Note: the first 2 pages of chapter 6 are cancels [a leaf or leaves have clearly been excised and replacement pages are glued to a stub]. SECOND STATE PROOF is paginated, appears to be printed on the same stock as the published book, and is perfect-bound in red paperwraps with "Advance Copy/ Oyez" stamped on front. ADVANCE REVIEW COPY (marked "Review Copy") is in white paperwraps printed in black on front only. Letters from Berkeley's Serendipity Books (now closed) to the collector Allen K. Mears on all the above included, to which Mears adds, "The correspondence wrongly says the white paper wrapped edition is the second pre-publication issue but the Bartlett & Campo bibliography says this white edition is the third. Appearance-wise, and the presence of the "Review Copy" mark support B&C." Paper in the first volume understandably age darkened and few minor stains on rear cover of the third otherwise a very good to near fine set of these three pre-publication volumes.
