(Covelo, CA): Carolyn and James Robertson / (Yolla Bolly Press, 1983). First edition from this press of Adamic’s essay originally published in 1929. Adds a “reminiscence of the period ... written by Garth Sherwood Jeffers, the poet’s surviving son, and a collection of sixteen photographs of the family never before published” (from the prospectus). COPY NUMBER ONE (“1”) of 265 numbered copies SIGNED BY GARTH JEFFERS. Small 4to gray cloth with printed paper labels on front and spine; double endpapers (blue and gray) and gray section dividers; page fore edges deckled. Fine in original glassine (shows touch of minor wear otherwise fine). TOGETHER WITH the original 4-page prospectus for this book with “Advance Announcement” of the “California Writers of the Land” series laid in; original ordering envelope; and the original mailing envelope with few handwritten notes of the collector, Allen K. Mears. As well as a TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY JAMES ROBERTSON to Mears on 5.5 x 7.25” letterhead of the press. Dated August 3, 1987, it thanks Mears for sending a copy of his Jeffers checklist (“It is most impressive!”) saying “I had no idea that the Adamic essay on Jeffers that we reprinted was [previously] reprinted....” Robertson also briefly discusses a trip made by Carolyn to Tor House and Garth Jeffers plans to “remarry later this month.” Additional material all in fine condition.
