THE ROSE OF SOLITUDE; [inscribed by Antoninus].

New York: Doubleday, 1967. First edition. INSCRIBED BY ANTONINUS on half-title page, "Inscribed for Ray and Chris Howe/ in appreciation for these/ days with Trenton State Museum,/ the many journeyings to far/ colleges, the many long/ conversations, and the joust/ with Alan Burke!/ Brother Antoninus/ April 7, 1968/ Pennington N.J." With a copy of a letter from Antoninus to Ray laid in that somewhat elucidates the association between them. Dated July 19, 1968, it thanks him for his hospitality and support while visiting "different campuses" and talks about the undergraduate audiences who "always provide the ultimate test. If you can't convince them you are written off as a stuffed shirt. There is only one way to do it -- keep your mind open and your heart on your sleeve." Burgundy cloth covered boards with black cloth spine; 125 pages. Near fine in about very good dust jacket with rubbing to edges and folds, as often seen.
