The "Victory Edition," preceded in the U.S. by the 1928 "First Authorized Edition." This groundbreaking work was for decades the best-known lesbian novel in English, Originally published in London by Jonathan Cape in 1928 but deemed obscene and surpressed. Small quarto (6.5 x 9.75") yellowish beige cloth boards stamped in silver on fronts and spines; blue paper onlays covering center of boards with fronts stamped in silver; top edges gilt; tan endpapers. Silver spine stamping rubbed as usually found, with rubbing to volume one a bit worse, otherwise would be near fine lacking the paper-covered slipcase in which the set was issued. Bookplates of E. Coster Wilmerding, a New York society figure, on pastedowns. Scarce. ONE OF THE BEST-KNOWN LESBIAN NOVELS IN ENGLISH.
