THE PRINCESS PRISCILLA'S FORTNIGHT: By the Author of "Elizabeth and Her German Garden."

New York: Scribner's Sons, 1905. First edition. Elizabeth von Arnim (1866 - 1941), born Mary Annette Beauchamp, was an Australian-born British novelist who, after her second marriage became Countess Russell. Early in life she went by Mary but after the publication of her first book, she was known to her readers, eventually her friends, and finally even to her family as Elizabeth Russell. She also wrote as Alice Cholmondeley. PRINCESS PRISCILLA'S FORTNIGHT was the basis for the play, "The Cottage in the Air" (1909), and for the British/German movie, "The Runaway Princess" (1929). Her later works were also adapted for the stage and screen, including her 1940 novel, MR. SKEFFINTON, which was made into the 1944 Academy Award-nominated film starring Bette Davis and Claude Rains (Wikipedia). Gilt-stamped green cloth boards; top edge gilt. Very good with minor aging and wear.
