No-place: Ridgway Company, 1919-1920. First U.S. edition thus: seven-part serialization in "Romance" magazine, a short-lived venture edited by Arthur Sullivan Hoffman that was intended as a companion to his "Adventure" pulp magazine. Preceded by the 1919 UK serialization in "Land and Water" magazine (both magazine appearances preceding the book). All seven parts bound together without the original covers or additional material. Quarto (small 4to) quarter-bound vellum-like paper with yellow coated-paper boards; covers and spine unprinted; text pagination not sequential but approximately 200 pages total, plus front and rear blanks, a title page, and an opening page for each of the 7 parts (on off-white paper). Title page reads: THE RESCUE [double rule] BY | JOSEPH CONRAD [double rule] Serial Story Collated and Bound from | ROMANCE | November 1919, to May, 1920." Altogether good to very good with covers somewhat soiled and rubbed and the original magazine pages darkened with age but without any loss to the contents.
