Berlin: Buchergilde Gutenberg, 1927. True first edition of Traven's most famous work. Second issue with last word in first line p.18 "badeten" and "S" chapter head correctly positioned [Treverton 244]. Made into the 1948 John Huston movie "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" starring Humphrey Bogart. Small quarto (6.75 x 9.5") dull orange cloth boards (we say "dull" because the cloth is definitely a different color than that on the first issue, which is a brighter orange) stamped in red and jungle green on front and spine; page top edge charcoal gray. Covers lightly rubbed and soiled, spine slightly dulled, top edge a bit rubbed, endpapers tanned at edges; still, about very good or perhaps better.
