New York: Rinehart and Company, (1948). First edition of the author's first book, SIGNED by Mailer. Only 25,000 copies printed. Acclaimed as one of the best novels to come out of WWII. Fragile black paper boards nicked at bottom edge but otherwise near fine, which is unusual. In the first-issue dust jacket with introductory blurb by Stanley Rinehart comparing Mailer favorably with Hemingway and others (versus the second-issue jacket with reviews). The jacket shows minor edge wear and one small chip but is still very good to near fine.
