SEIZE THE MOMENT: America's Challenge in a One-Superpower World.

New York: Simon & Schuster, (1992). First edition of his critically praised assessment of American foreign policy. The book is SIGNED by Nixon and has a laid-in TYPED LETTER INITIALED by Nixon that also has his HOLOGRAPH SALUTATION. The letter, to The Honorable Richard Lyng, is on Nixon's personal engraved letterhead from his Woodcliff Lake NJ address, measures 6.75 x 9" and is dated December 23, 1991: "Dear Dick [written in Nixon's hand], I thought you might be interested in seeing some unconventional wisdom on foreign and domestic issues. Best wishes for the New Year." Lyng (1918-2003) oversaw the government's food programs as an Assistant Secretary of Agriculture under Nixon from 1969 to 1973 and was Ronald Reagan's Agriculture Secretary from 1986 to 1989. Nixon (1913-1994) was, of course, the only President to have resigned from office due to scandal. In later years, however, he traveled extensively to meet with foreign leaders, wrote, and took speaking engagements. In 1986, he journeyed to the Soviet Union, after which he shared his foreign policy suggestions and impressions of Mikhail Gorbachev with Reagan. Following that trip, Nixon was ranked in a Gallup poll as one of the ten most admired men in the world and Newsweek Magazine ran a story on "Nixon's comeback" with the headline "He's back." The Nixon Center he founded in 1991 is now the Center for the National Interest, a non-partisan public policy institution. (Wikipedia). Apparently there really are second acts in American lives. The book is fine in fine dust jacket; the letter is fine with light crease where folded. SIGNED ASSOCIATION COPY WITH LETTER LAID IN.
